Welcome to our March Edition of Green Solutions Ottawa. We hope you'll find this newsletter filled with information that will help you go green!

  Ethiquette and Bamboo Flooring

If you've been making an effort to 'vote green' through your consumer choices, you may be surprised to find that a number of products claiming to be eco-friendly based on their bamboo fibre content have recently been re-labeled.
Ethiquette, a Montreal based organization with a web site aimed at informing the green consumer, recently posted information regarding the Competition Bureau's efforts to ensure accurate labeling. It seems that while a number of manufacturers, distributors, retailers, and advertising agencies claimed that the products were made of 'bamboo', the fibres were actually viscose. The Competition Bureau's full statement is on Ethiquette's web site and is followed by interesting commentary regarding the process of creating textiles containing bamboo pulp.   Ottawa Water Quality

Spring is coming fast, and with the changing seasons comes lots of . . . water! Running down the streets, pooling in parks, swelling streams and rivers, and falling from the sky, the high visibility of water makes it easy to forget that quantity and quality don't necessarily have a direct proportional relationship. Water quality is an issue affecting everyone, and this month Ottawa's residents have some great opportunities to get informed and get involved in water quality issues in our community.

Public meetings concerning the protection of Ottawa's drinking water sources will be held on March 22nd and 31st, for details please visit this link, and in April a joint Ottawa Riverkeeper and NCC summit addressing broader issues relating to protection of the Ottawa river will be taking place. For more information please visit this link.

Save with Hydro Ottawa and the peaksaver ® program!
